Essential oils, potent natural cleaning products, are derived from plants. In addition to providing wonderful cleaning benefits, essential oils fill your home with wonderful scents. Essential oils provide antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic benefits when used in house cleaning. To use essential oil in your cleaning, you will need to make a few basic cleaners. Below is a list of 5 recipes for creating your own essential oil cleansers. Follow the directions to have your own natural cleaners ready to use in no time.

Keep Your Floors Clean and Your Air Fresh

Holiday Air Freshener

4 drops Pine Needle Oil

1 drop Cedar wood

1 drop Orange Oil

2 drops Cinnamon

Directions: Mix in 2-3 ounces water, per your preference. A good idea is to start with 2 ounces. If the fragrance is too strong for you, dilute further with up to 1 additional ounce of water.

Hard Floor Cleaner

1 gallon water

1/4 cup white vinegar

10 drops Lemon Oil

4 drops Grapefruit Oil

2 drops Orange Oil

Directions: Combine 1/4 cup white vinegar with 1 gallon of water. Add the lemon, grapefruit and orange oils. Mix before use.

Clean & Disinfect Everything Else in Your Home

Furniture Polish

1/4 cup Jojoba Oil

1/4 cup white vinegar

10-20 drops Lemon Oil, depending on your preference for fragrance strength

Note: You can also use another essential oil whose fragrance you enjoy.

Directions: Mix all ingredients in a container. Mix well before using. To use, apply a small amount of the polish on a clean, dry cloth. Wipe furniture in the direction of the grain. Apply polish to all surfaces, paying particular attention to corners and crevices.

All-Purpose Cleaner

1 cup white vinegar

1 cup water

10 drops Oregano Oil

10 drops Eucalyptus Oil

Directions: Combine vinegar and water in a bottle. Add oregano and eucalyptus oils. Mix well. Use on hard surfaces such as counter tops and appliances in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Disinfectant Cleanser

3 drops Eucalyptus Oil

5 drops Pine Needle Oil

5 drops Orange Oil

10 drops Grapefruit Oil

20 drops Lemon Oil

2 cups water

Directions: Combine essential oils in a spray bottle; add water. Spray and wipe off to clean surfaces such as counters, tile and stoves.
